Imagine the possibility of having more time as much as you need to do all the things you've always wanted to do. Imagine the chance of being reunited with the people you care about, in a future of exciting possibilities. Imagine the reassurance of knowing that you may be freed from the limitations of a twentieth-century lifespan.

World's Largest Organization Dedicated To Scientific Methods To Slow and Reverse Aging

Life Extensionists are people who believe in taking advantage of documented scientific therapies to prevent diseases and slow aging. The medical literature contains thousands of papers on the use of antioxidant supplements, hormone therapies and medications that have been shown to improve the quality and quantity of life. Life Extensionists attempt to use this scientific information to improve their chances of living longer in good health.

To many people, the invention of the control of ageing will seem like science fiction; and, of course, it still is - presently. However, virtually all of the basic science is in place, and some meaningful life-extension can currently be achieved with procedures that are fairly straight-forward. For solving the basic problem of biological ageing, there are only a hand full of strategic options (we believe the development of "eumitogenic" agents is the most direct, but we monitor the developments in the various other fields). There is a growing awareness of the potential within the scientific community; and a land-mark study was recently reported in which brain structures of old primates were re-grown. Human trials are scheduled, and it will be known by the end of this year (2000) if the procedure works on humans.

In short: ever-increasing scientific advances, growing experimental evidence, and informed and reputable scientific opinion is coming together and telling us that it can be done. And the technology that will allow us to do it is being developed. Rapidly.

So What's Next? By the end of 1999 there will be two more major breakthroughs in the war on cancer; "Discodermolide" found in a sponge extract, will be produced by a Swiss company and "gene coding" will be introduced as a cure for cancer and possible proof that the cure for all diseases will be found in the genes. Genetic engineering will introduce new breakthroughs and a new era.

  • Bostrom, Nick Advanced topics in transhumanism. You'll also find some hot material in analytic philosophy and computational neuroscience. Plus a work of Swedish poetry! [Editor's note: Bostrom appears to be a genius - he completed three-and-a-half undergraduate programmes simultaneously - a Swedish record!]
  • Pearce, David: HedWeb  Interests: how biotechnology will allow us to get rid of suffering in all sentient life (allegedly); animal rights; consciousness; psychopharmacology; and "Why does anything exist?" An attractive, thought-provoking, and many-tentacled site.
  • Forste, Eric Watt Extropian and Buddhist; coauthor of the Extropian FAQ. His vast array of transhumanist and anarchocapitalist interests makes him one of the archetypal Extropians.
  • Hanson, Robin Economist and polymath; inventor of "Ideas Futures" markets; allegedly open-minded and politically undogmatic. His homepage is immodest(?) and says much about him, not necessarily bad things.
  • Very Extropian Persons Eric Watt Forste's list of people who are "extropian (or at the very least, transhumanist and not authoritarian)."
  • Yudkowsky, Eliezer A neurohack and an extreme Singularitarian. His Web complex, "The Low Beyond", contains over a megabyte of original writing on topics ranging from coding a smarter-than-human AI to the meaning of life.
